The Miraculous Icon of the Holy Mother of God "Odigitria" or Guide dates back to the 12th century and is the oldest shrine of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. The other known name of the icon is St. Mary Osenitsa /Ossenitsa/. The icon is located in the Main Church at the St. Yoan of Rila Monastery. The relics of 32 Christian saints whose names are inscribed on metal plates are placed in special recesses around it.
